We will explore the major events and history of Massachusetts in our textbook, Massachusetts: Our Home. Topics and discussions begin with the Pilgrims, Puritans, and Wampanoags and their feast of Thanksgiving. We study the unique regions of Massachusetts and the notable landmarks of each one. We will also study the key events leading up to the American Revolution including the Boston Tea Party and Boston Massacre.
In addition, we will study major holidays including Columbus Day, the history of Veterans Day, and Thanksgiving
in conjunction with our study of the Wampanoags and Pilgrims. In
December, we travel aboard Christmas Airlines and study the diverse
holiday traditions and customs in England, Germany, Mexico, Israel,
Italy, and France. In January, we study the life of Martin Luther King Jr. and his major accomplishments. In February we compare and contrast former presidents in honor of President's Day.
